| Short description: | The aim of the course is the acquaint the students with identification of different species of parasites. Students learns the basic concepts and terms in the field of parasitology, live cycles of parasites and zoological systematic. Student acquires knowledge concerning clinical symptoms and pathological changes of parasitic diseases. The course covers bases of epidemiology, clinical and laboratory diagnostics, control and preventive measurements of parasitic diseases. |
| Full description: | The characteristic parasites in domestic and wild animals, their morphology, biology, live cycle and epizootic and epidemiologic role. Interaction between hosts and parasites, various laboratory methods used for the diagnosis of parasitic diseases, antiparasitic drugs, prevention an control. |

| Learning outcomes: | Knowledge: - identify the species of parasites, estimate the associated risk to the animal and a human, define the basic concepts and terms in the field of parasitology, describe the life cycle of parasites - describe clinical signs and pathological changes during the course of parasitic diseases of domestic , wild and laboratory animals - plan basic diagnostic tests to demonstrate parasites and implement appropriate therapy in infected animals Skills: - plan and implement antiparasitic prevention in the herd - estimate and determine the risk of parasitic invasion in animals - perform basic diagnostic tests to identify the parasites - identify risks for companion animals (dogs, cats) that result from eating contaminated animal products, raw fish, meat or internal organs Social competences: - sets out the principles of cooperation with animal breeders and veterinary departments, to combat parasitic diseases of animal |
